On Saturday and Sunday last our competitions continued with our August Medal, an 18 hole stroke sponsored by the Mooncoin Golf Society. We would like to express our thanks to the Mooncoin Society who have been wonderful sponsors and supporter to Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club over the years. The competition saw some excellent scoring and was won by Mooncoin man, Ned Walsh with a score of 66 . Next weekends competition is sponsored by G.K. Print and the timesheets are now posted in the bar.
From Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th August we are holding an open 3 person scramble in the club as a teams fundraiser. Entry in the event is only €10.00 for visitors and members alike so why not bring so friends along to play.
Timesheets for this years Garravoone Cup will be posted on Tuesday 24th August. The qualifier takes place from Friday 3rd September to Sunday 5th September with the final being held on Sunday 12th September.
Race Night
On Saturday night last, a race night was held in Wall’s Bar to raise funds towards team expenses for the Jimmy Bruen team. A most excellent night was had by the large crowd that attended and by any standards the event was an outstanding success. Organiser and M.C. for the night was Michael Hassett who worked tirelessly over the last month promoting and acquiring sponsorship for the night. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael for all his work and for the monies he raised. The success of the night will no doubt turn this into an annual event which will be looked forward to every year.
Team News
On Tuesday last it was the turn of our J.B. Carr team to take to the field in the Munster semi final against East Cork Golf Club. Manager, John Geraghty stayed faithful to the County winning side and hopes were high for a victory and a Munster Final spot. East Cork took full advantage of a home draw and had an early lead in most matches as local knowledge played a big part. The Carrick team improved over the back nine but in the end East Cork held on to win the day. We would like to thank John and his team for their efforts during the year and are sure that next year the team can go a step further and capture a Munster title.

Munster Champions
Last Sunday saw both our Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell teams took part in the Munster Finals in Mitchelstown Golf Club. It was a source of great pride to the club to have two teams still involved at this stage of the competitions and an army of supporters made the trip to Mitchelstown to show their support.
Our Pierce Purcell team had a tough semi final against Waterville Golf Club and despite a brave performance lost the match 3 – 2. Selector, Rusty Fox thanked the team and panel for the massive effort they had given throughout the year and reminded the players of their achievement in coming so far. It showed the strength of the club spirit that nearly the whole pierce Purcell panel stayed on, despite the wet conditions, to support the Jimmy Bruen team in the afternoon.
Our Jimmy Bruen team played Rathbane Golf Club in the morning semi final and had an excellent 4 – 1 win having played some super golf. This lead to a final against Raffeen Creek Golf Club from Cork in the afternoon. Any expected nerves from the Carrick team in the final failed to materialise as the team raised their game yet another notch. Large numbers of Carrick supporters applauded and cheered the team throughout the afternoon as the Carrick team started to gain the upper hand. Some fantastic golf was played in the final and the win when it came, it was met by euphoric celebrations. Robert Barry, the team manger had the honour of collecting the club’s first Munster Championship Pennant in 25 years. At the presentation Robert thanked all the team and supporters as did Captain Liam Daniels. An extra mention has to go to Robert Barry for the Trojan work he put into the team in the past months and will no doubt continue to do so as we head for the All Ireland final in September.
The All Ireland final takes place in Castlebar Golf Club in mid September and we look for to representing Munster in this event.
